Cottage Cheese With Fruit
Cottage cheese with fruit is a nutritious breakfast or snack idea that’s packed with protein and fiber! Sweet + savoury, these recipes are quick-to-make and easy to modify based on your preferences.

Cottage cheese is having a major comeback at the time that I’m writing this. As a dietitian, I love that this protein-packed ingredient can be used in so many ways, but sometimes I just want to get back to the basics.
Pairing cottage cheese with fruit is such an easy way to reap the nutrition benefits of both fruit and cottage cheese. Together, they’ll make a super quick breakfast or snack option to keep you feeling full and satisfied. Plus, they taste super delicious – perfect for fans of that sweet + savoury flavour combo!
I’ve shared 2 slightly different versions of this cottage cheese with fruit recipe. Both use fresh berries, but one leans a little more savoury and the other a little more sweet. I hope you enjoy whichever one you choose 🙂

Benefits of cottage cheese + fruit
Cottage cheese is best known for its high protein content – 1 cup of cottage cheese provides about 28 grams of complete protein!
Cottage cheese is also a source of vitamins and minerals like:
- calcium
- vitamin B12
- selenium
- phosphorus
- riboflavin (vitamin B2)
- magnesium
- folate
- vitamin B6
While the exact nutrition breakdown will vary depending on the variety of fruit, in general fruit is an excellent source of:
- essential micronutrients (such as vitamin C + potassium)
- dietary fiber
- antioxidants + other beneficial plant compounds
Together, this fiber-rich and protein-packed breakfast or snack will keep you feeling full and satisfied. Protein, like cottage cheese, slows digestion, helps to make fruit more filling, and keeps you energized for longer.
Best fruit to eat with cottage cheese
Honestly, it’s hard to go wrong with your fruit choices here. Cottage cheese has a mild flavour that creates a great base for that sweet + savoury flavour combo!
Some popular pairings include:
- berries, like fresh strawberries, raspberries, blackberries, or blueberries
- juicy pineapples
- stone fruit, like peaches, plums, or nectarines
Other topping ideas
I jazzed up these cottage cheese and fruit bowls with a few extra drizzles and herbs!
For the more “savoury” version, I added some freshly chopped basil, black pepper, and a drizzle of balsamic glaze.
For the “sweeter” version, I went for some fresh mint and a drizzle of honey.
That said, feel free to choose your own adventure here. You can get creative by adding different nuts or seeds (like pumpkin seeds or sliced almonds) or something like granola (for more sweetness).
Make these bowls into portable fruit cups!
Want to take this recipe on the go? Feel free to place all the ingredients into portable (and reusable) containers or jars. That way, you’ll have your own cottage cheese fruit cups to bring with you to work or school.
No need to purchase the store-bought ones, which often contain more added sugar and preservatives. You’ll also end up with less waste than with those single-serving plastic cups. Just be sure to bring along a spoon!
More easy, healthy breakfasts:

- Overnight Oats With Frozen Fruit
- Peanut Butter Greek Yogurt Bowl
- Lemon Blueberry Ricotta Toast
